Our second project of the year is to choose a news story and create a 20 page A3 book about it. The book can be all image or all text, no mixing; as well as that, the book can only use up to 3 colours (paper colour not included).
I chose fashion week as a topic to look at various news stories until I remembered I had read one in the Evening Standard, just prior to the last London Fashion Week, about the way people where wearing their coats on their shoulders A.K.A – ‘Shoulder Robing’. Unfortunately (and after spending HOURS on the internet browsing through old tabloids and articles to no avail) I couldn’t trace the original article, so I will have to base my project on the three most similar articles I managed to dig out of google.
To be fair Vogue have been on this trend since 2013 with the original name being ‘Coat slinging”
I began to draw and draw, just to see what images would look like.
This piece was a quick trial of a type idea I had, it says ‘FAS’ if I carried it on it would say ‘FASHION’ (obvs) 😉
Then I thought why not do a top
10 5 (because I found it hard to think of 3, ha!). These are what I managed to choose, with a little help from my Sister.
More image making, as well as text experiments… I tried to take the concept of the original fashion trend and apply that to the text. Personally I really like the ‘Jeans’ one!
Here I found some fur – super soft BTW – and tried a few things with that.
-Another personal fave-
I have also been thinking about different paper textures to see what can reflect the garments and their effect/ influence in fashion. I have two weeks left to get this book done so, LOTS of work to do :O !!
